Osteoporosis is a condition in which bone strength is compromised predisposing the skeleton to an increased risk of fracture. Half of all bone fractures are associated with osteoporosis.

If you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, are recovering from a fracture or if you would like to decrease your risk for developing the disease, our physiotherapists will provide you with a comprehensive individualized exercise program.
Exercises are geared to improving overall posture, flexibility, strength, and balance which will enable you to return to a safe and active lifestyle.
Risk factors associated with the development of osteoporosis include:
- Advanced age
- Female gender
- Low body weight or a thin and slender build
- Recent weight loss
- History of fractures
- Family history of fractures
- Tobacco use
- Alcohol Abuse
- Asian or Caucasion
- Lack of exercise
- Extended use of certain medications (e.g., corticosteroids, anticonvulsants, and thyroid medicine)
- Eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia
